**Patiala:** Parinaz Dhaliwal, the athlete from Patiala who brought laurels to the country and the state by winning two bronze medals in shooting events at the Asian Games, was honored at the District Sports Office. Speaking on the occasion, Ghanaur MLA Gurlal Ghanaur praised her achievement, noting that Parinaz has elevated the pride of both Punjab and India by flying the national tricolor high on the international stage.
Congratulating Parinaz’s father, Ratandeep Dhaliwal, and her entire family, the MLA remarked that this achievement was the result of her hard work, family support, and dedication to the sport. He expressed hope that Parinaz would continue to perform excellently and bring further glory to the nation in the future.
**Emphasis on providing facilities and encouragement to athletes**
Gurlal Ghanaur stated that to promote sports in Punjab, athletes must receive better training, facilities, and the necessary support to prepare for competitions. Highlighting the efforts to promote sports under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, he emphasized that athletes deserve recognition and encouragement commensurate with their achievements.
Referring to government appointments under the sports quota, promotions, and pending matters concerning athletes, he asserted that eligible players should receive benefits in accordance with the rules. He added that the procedures for awarding prize money and providing other facilities should be streamlined so that athletes do not have to make repeated rounds of government offices to claim their entitlements.
**Need to enhance sports facilities in rural areas**
The MLA stated that developing sports grounds and other facilities in villages is essential to keep the youth away from drugs and inspire them to take up sports. He also emphasized the need to promote sports and provide better opportunities for the youth within the Ghanaur assembly constituency. During the event, District Sports Officer Navjot Singh Dhaliwal and his team honored Parinaj Dhaliwal and wished her a bright future.
Expressing her gratitude for the honor, Parinaj acknowledged the significant role played by her family and the Punjab government in her achievement. She stated that her focus is now on preparing for upcoming competitions and that she will continue to work hard to bring glory to the country and Punjab.
In a message to young athletes, Parinaj advised them to learn from setbacks and challenges rather than becoming disheartened by them. She emphasized that athletes should focus on their own training and performance instead of comparing themselves to others.
