Jaggi Johal, Bagga, Shera and others produced in court under tight security
👉 59th trial appearance of Jaggi Johal and 3024 days of arbitrary detention
New Delhi 13 February (Manpreet Singh Khalsa):- Bhai Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal, Ramandeep Singh Bagga, Hardeep Singh Shera, Amaninder Singh, Manpreet Singh and others, lodged in Delhi's Tihar and Mandoli jails, were produced in a Delhi court under tight police security in 8 cases registered against them. This was their 59th trial appearance in the court. It is worth mentioning that these cases were related to the state of Punjab but the country's NIA, using its power, had them transferred to Delhi despite heavy opposition from lawyers and families. Last year, Jaggi Johal was acquitted in a case due to lack of evidence and there was hope that he would be out soon, but today he is spending his life in jail due to 3024 days of arbitrary detention. A government witness appeared in the court, for whose crossing, Bhai Jaspal Singh Manjhpur and Ekta Vakil appeared on behalf of the Singhs and questioned him thoroughly. It is worth mentioning here that various organizations and MPs in the UK are continuously demanding the UK government to take necessary steps for the release of Jaggi, but the UK government is proving to be a failure in this matter. Recently, MP Douglas McAllister raised the issue of Jagtar's arbitrary detention in Parliament and said that it is quite disappointing that the Foreign Secretary does not have the decency to answer questions in the case of Jaggi Johal. UK Sikh MP Jas Singh Athwal said when he was acquitted of 1 of the 8 charges brought against him in March last year, there was real hope that justice would be served. But a year later, there has been little tangible progress. He said if we cannot defend our citizens who are illegally imprisoned abroad, we risk succumbing to the wishes of others rather than standing firm on principle. Bhai Amrik Singh Gill and Bhai Dabinderjit Singh of the Sikh Federation UK reacted to the case and said that British citizen Jaggi Johal was arbitrarily detained in India. Despite serious concerns about his detention and allegations of torture by the United Nations, Jagtar Singh Johal has been held without a fair trial for more than 8 years. Continuous hearings are being scheduled to conclude the pending cases in the court at the earliest, due to which the next hearing has been scheduled for February 16, 18 and 19.
