Former ADGP Gurinder Dhillon, Chairman of Ex-Servicemen Wing, Punjab Congress, Issues Statement

Patiala, November 26:
On the occasion of Constitution Day, the Punjab Congress organized special district-level meetings across the state. Addressing the gathering, former ADGP and Chairman of the Ex-Servicemen Wing, Punjab Congress, Gurinder Dhillon said that, following the directives of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress President, an awareness campaign was conducted throughout Punjab to protect the Constitution.
At the meeting held in Patiala under the leadership of the Urban and Rural Presidents, party workers were informed about the importance of safeguarding constitutional values.

Dhillon noted,
“Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly warned that there are continuous attempts to tamper with the Constitution in different ways. It is our responsibility to stop such actions.”

He emphasized that India’s Constitution, which came into force on January 26, 1950 and was drafted through years of effort by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, grants equal rights to every citizen without discrimination. Therefore, whenever anyone’s rights are violated, raising one’s voice is the duty of every citizen.

Punjab University Issue

Dhillon criticized the Central Government, stating that Punjab University is an integral part of Punjab’s heritage, established in Chandigarh after being relocated from Lahore post-Partition.
He said,
“Separating Punjab University from Punjab would be like tampering with a person’s DNA. The Centre should not interfere with its structure or status.”

He urged BJP leaders—JP Nadda, Sharma Ji, and Ashwini Choubey—to respect the sentiments of Punjabis and refrain from altering the university’s current position.

National Security & Threats from Pakistan and China

Dhillon stressed the need for constant vigilance regarding external threats.
“Whether it is our hostile neighbour Pakistan or China, we cannot blindly trust anyone. Every citizen must remain alert.”

He appreciated recent police actions but added that public awareness and caution are equally important.

Statement on Guru Tegh Bahadur and Sikh History

Referring to the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Dhillon said:
“Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was not only the protector of Sikhs, but of all religions across the world. The message of sacrifice he gave in 1675 remains equally relevant today.”

He also highlighted the role of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas, and the Sikh struggle against Mughal persecution.
He stated that Fatehgarh Sahib is the only place in the world where the supreme sacrifice of two Sahibzadas lives on in history.

Criticism of State Government on Law & Order and Drug Trafficking

Dhillon attacked the Punjab Government, claiming that the law-and-order situation has weakened.
“The government has failed to control drugs and organized crime. The police are trying, but due to lack of political leadership, results are not visible.”

He added that to combat cross-border smuggling and organized crime, the government needs a stronger and more coordinated strategy.
