Next phase of voting to be held in Indianapolis on August 16 and Edmonton on October 18

New Delhi, March 23 (Manpreet Singh Khalsa):- Despite the growing global tension over India’s opposition and attacks on Sikh leaders abroad, the US has allowed the Khalistan referendum in Seattle to go ahead. Thousands of Sikhs have gathered to cast their votes as part of a global movement organised by Sikhs for Justice and over 27,000 votes were cast. Voting officially began at 9 am local time on Sunday, with organizers ensuring that all necessary facilities including food and refreshments were provided for the attendees. Bhai Narinder Singh Randhawa, Bhai Gurmeet Singh Toor, who arrived from Canada, said that the referendum in Seattle, the first of its kind in the city, is being led by Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and exiled Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma, who emphasized Punjab’s historical resilience and expressed faith in a transformative future. They said that downtown Seattle was decorated with Khalistani flags, creating a vibrant atmosphere as participants turned out in large numbers to cast their votes. The event follows previous referendums around the world, including in Ottawa on November 23, 2025, as well as in London, Toronto, Vancouver, Rome and Geneva. They said that millions of Sikhs around the world have participated in previous votes in favor of Khalistan, which highlights the community’s continued international mobilization. He said India has faced allegations of targeting Sikh leaders abroad, including the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada in 2023. Such incidents have increased tensions between the Indian state and the global Sikh diaspora, with organizers questioning India’s alleged indifference towards the referendum. On the occasion, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma asserted, “We are not afraid of death, and we believe that due to Punjab’s history of resistance, the map of India will change in the next 10 to 15 years and a different facet of Sikhs will be seen.” He said the next phase of the referendum has been announced to be held in Indianapolis on August 16 and Edmonton on October 18.
