Sikh student's turban removed, hair pulled and assaulted in Meerut's Inter College
👉 Casteist abuses hurled, threats continued from the accused, family in shock
New Delhi December 17 (Manpreet Singh Khalsa):- A similar heartbreaking incident has come to light from Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, which has brought shame to humanity and religious harmony. A Sikh student of class 12 in the city's prestigious Sanatan Dharam Inter College was not only brutally attacked by his classmates, but his turban, a symbol of his religious faith, was also removed and his hair pulled. After this incident, the victim student is in deep shock. The student's father said that some unruly students of the class had been targeting him for a long time. They used to harass him daily, push him and abuse him without any provocation. The situation worsened when these students started targeting him on the basis of his religious identity. He was subjected to casteist abuses which were mentally breaking him. According to the victim's family, on October 16, the accused crossed all limits and surrounded him in the school campus. Before he could react, the accused attacked him. According to eyewitnesses and the victim's statement, the attacking students badly pulled his hair and removed his turban from his head. Whereas in Sikhism, removing the turban or insulting someone's hair is considered a serious religious offence and sacrilege. When he tried to defend his turban and protest, the accused kicked and punched him, hurled casteist abuses and left him half dead. Acting immediately on the complaint of the student's father, Sadar Bazar Police Station has registered a case under serious sections against five named and other unidentified students. Serious questions are being raised on the role of the college management and teachers in this entire incident. The victim's father Jagdev Singh alleges that his son was troubled for a long time. The college management and the teachers concerned were informed about this. If the college administration had reined in the mischievous students or provided them with timely counseling, such a serious incident might not have happened. The victim's family claims that, after coming to know about the registration of the case, the accused students are now threatening him over the phone and social media. They are sending him abusive messages and threatening to kill him. This has left the entire family in shock, and the student is even afraid to go to school.
