PU Senate and Syndicate Abolition Case
Congress warns Indian government, don't play with fire
Punjab University 'saffronization' will not be allowed
Chandigarh, November 1: Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has warned against the proposal to abolish the elected Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University and replace them with nominated institutions. He said that the shameless attempt to saffronize a historic institution like Panjab University is condemnable.
In a statement issued here, Warring said that the abolition of the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University and replacing them with nominated members is clearly a despicable attempt by the BJP and the RSS to hijack a historic institution of the country. This is in accordance with the RSS's rule book to usurp and saffronize all the major academic institutions and cultural centres of the country.
He warned that no Punjabi will tolerate this. He said that Panjab University is an integral part of Punjabi identity and its history is closely linked to Punjabi culture and ethos.
The state Congress president stressed that if the BJP thinks that it can snatch this institution from Punjabis, then it is very wrong. The people who have put forward this idea clearly seem to be unaware of the pride of Punjabis about their identity and the institutions associated with it.
It seems that such people do not know how Punjabis protect their pride. He warned, remarking that it would be better not to play with fire, you will burn your fingers.
